Tourist struck by runaway NYC cab saved by celeb doctor, plumber

NEW YORK Aug. 20 (UPI) -- A British tourist in New York City struck by a runaway cab that severed her foot was aided by a construction worker and a celebrity doctor observers said.
The woman was standing on the sidewalk in midtown Manhattan at 46th St. and Sixth Ave.Tuesday afternoon eating a hot dog when a taxi cab jumped the curb and plowed into her the New York Daily News said.The woman's foot was severed and witnesses said it flew into the air. Her leg below the knee was crushed during the accident.The Daily News said a member of a nearby construction crew rushed to help the woman and began fashioning a tourniquet out of his belt.That's when Mehmet Oz better known as television's Dr.Oz whose office is next to the accident scene rushed outside to help.
Between the construction worker a plumber named Dave and Dr.Oz they were able to apply the tourniquet and staunch the bleeding. Paramedics rushed the woman to a nearby hospital. She was expected to survive the incident.Her leg was crushed below the knee said Oz whose T-shirt and jeans were covered with blood.I helped put on the tourniquet with Dave the Plumber.Luckily Dave had a belt.
Police said they were unsure what caused the taxi driver to strike the woman.Oz said he quickly evaluated the taxi driver who he said looked dazed.The incident remains under investigation.
